Tamilnadu style DOSA / IDLI


*Urad dal – 1 cup,
*Boiled rice/ tiffin rice - 1 1/2 cup,
*Raw rice- 1 1/2 cup
*Fenugreek/methi seeds-1 table spoon.


Wash urad dal and fenugreek seeds and soak them for 4 hrs. Wash two types of rice together and soak for 4 hrs separately not mixing with dal.

After 4 hrs first grind urad dal in the grinder for 10 min. now add rice and grind all the ingredients till batter becomes very soft.

Now leave that batter for overnight to ferment and from the next day morning use that batter adding salt and water[if required] for soft idlis and dosa

Idly :

If you are making idlis grease your idli mould with oil and pour that batter in the mould and cook it for 10 mins.


When you are making dosas after spreading dosa on the pan you can put nicely chopped onions on the dosa to get onion dosa.

You can have plain dosa with any chutney. You can sprinkle idli podi on the dosa to get podi dosa.

Like that you can make any type of dosa like grated carrot dosa ,Nicely chopped coriander dosa.
